St. Pat’s Dessert Laden Tablescape

This is a brand new tablescape for St. Patrick’s Day today, with a lot of new items, and I have happily used some of my older, all time favorite items, too. Included in today’s post, are some links to St. Patrick’s Day tablescapes from the past. These links are included in the “Posts I Hope You Will Like” section, which follows the “Table Details and Origins” section.

Welcome to the Lake!! I’m so glad you could stop by and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with us this week. However, I first want to apologize, as it has been a while since I have posted. Wayne and I are still experiencing various health issues, and are feeling a bit as if we live at the doctor’s office, and just come home to eat and sleep. Please keep us in your prayers as we try to get some things resolved health and dental wise.

We also have some good news. We have started a new project for one of the neighbors and it is keeping us busy too – but it’s a fun busy, which is completely different than our non-fun doctor appointments. Right now the project we are working on is a surprise, so no more news on that until April.

The table I’m sharing today is a brand new St. Patrick’s Day tablescape. As some of you know, I enjoy using special foods and desserts for holiday tables. Sometimes I use “traditional” foods, and sometimes I use desserts and beverages that have been decorated with holiday colors, images, and symbols. As you may also know, I love to leave my tablescapes on display for at least the whole week of the holiday. Due to that long time period of display, I have moved to largely faux foods for the food displays on my tables during the week. This solves the problem of the food getting stale, and also solves the more dangerous problem of Simba (our lovable Golden Retriever) being attracted to candy, chocolate, and other food items that could be fatal for him. Because of this, I am gradually building up a faux food collection for the holidays, but as most of these faux foods are handmade to order and are on the expensive side, it has become a bit of a challenge.

Do you decorate for St. Patrick’s Day and do you do a tablescape too? Do you use special foods in your celebrations? I have a friend (we became friends way back in high school) who uses many green foods in her St. Pat’s supper. I have always loved that idea! If you were going to do a green meal – what would you include? Please answer – if you have time. You can answer in the comment section at the very bottom of the post.

I was lucky this Spring because Homegoods came out with many faux food items this year for both St. Patrick’s Day and Easter, and I was lucky to be in Homegoods when some of these items first came in. These items inspired the “look” and “theme” of my tablescape. There are 4 different designs of the St. Patrick’s Day cupcakes I used in my tablescape. All are from Homegoods, and all are “Lucky Lane” from the Xiamen Hanka Home International Trade Co. in Xiamen, China.

The below are 9 of the faux cookie styles from two different kinds of boxed sets from Homegoods. All are from the Lucky Lane or St. Patrick’s Day collection from XIAMEN Hanka Home International Trade company and XIAMEN Sunever Import and Export Company, Xiamen, China.

I love the painting job on all the cookies – to me it looks very vivid – like the real cookies at decorator frosting from the best bakeries.

In the beginning of the tablescape I started with one of my Homegoods white “Waterford” tablecloths.

On top of the tablecloth, I placed a green shamrock placemat from Kohl’s purchased about 8 years ago. I considered using the reverse side of the Kohl’s place mat, which has a bold shamrock pattern fabric, but it seemed too “busy” with all the decorations on the faux cupcakes and cookies.

On top of the Kohl’s shamrock placemat, I placed the dinner plate from my Upware Shamrocks Melamine dinnerware (see below). I love the Upware shamrock plates pattern and I especially like that the melamine is heavy duty. It’s perfect for indoor and outdoor dining for both adults and kids. My 16 piece set included dessert plates in a shamrock shape too which, I really enjoy – although I didn’t have room for all the different plates with this tablescape.

I was surprised to see that in addition to the 16 piece set above, Amazon also sells many of the pieces (such as Dinner Plates, and also Shamrock shaped plates) in 4-6 piece groups. So if your cabinets only allow you room for a few new plates for each holiday, you can still “Go Irish” with these shamrock dishes for St. Pat’s.

This is likely my least complicated “plate stack” to date with only the one plate – but I like the simplicity of the stack, because the rest of the table is full of designs.

The flatware is Onieda’s Golden Affection and was put on our registry way back in 1988 when my husband and I were married. I still love it so much that I bought another set on eBay, this second set is used here at the lake house.

The satin napkins are from Amazon and the napkin rings are from Homegoods. Both of these were purchased last year.

Also in each place setting is a green wine glass, these were sold at Dollar Tree about 6 years ago. I love that the dollar tree goblets almost exactly match the very old depression glass candle holders.

Down the center of the tablescape (from left to right-see picture below), I have one cake pedestal with cupcakes, one Jeanette candle holder (depression glass), a white ceramic narrow tray with cookies, Irish Girl with lamb figurine, charger plate with cookies, a Leprechaun figurine, a second narrow ceramic tray with cookies, the other Jeanette candle holder, and a second cake pedestal.

The green tint to the tablecloth above is from the holiday ornament tree. It has mini lights that change color via remote control, and for St. Patrick’s Day the lights were set on green. I love the effect the tree gives to the tablescape.

The center of the table is filled with the Faux cupcakes and cookies and a few other items. The cookies and cupcakes are displayed on White Ceramic dinnerware” CeriArt” from Homegoods, and were made in Portugal. Last year I found changer plates that go with these dishes, and I purchased them to go with my ” “Christmas Horse Farm” dishes. Over the last few months, I have added the cake pedestals, and two small trays, to use with or without the charger plates. I was happy that I had these serving pieces in time to do this tablescape. I like that 3 of the pieces are non-pedestal serving dishes and two have pedestals. I put the two with the pedestals on the outside edges of the table and the 3 low ones on the inside, so that the views are unobstructed in the middle.

Because I took pictures of the tablescape over a few days, I have a few different days of sunsets to share. I hope these sunset pictures brighten your day, as the sunsets brighten ours.

Susan and Maggie at our St. Patrick’s Day meal.

I had good news this week! My friend Susan is back in town, after doing a lot of traveling this month. We finally had a chance to get together for the whole day, and catch up visiting… while our dogs had the whole day to run and play. Susan took me out to lunch, for my birthday (which had been postponed for a bit due to Wayne’s surgery). We had a great lunch at “First Watch” one of my favorite brunch places. Later in the day we ate supper at the St. Patrick’s Day Tablescape -which was very festive. The birthday cake dessert Susan brought came in very handy because the FAUX desserts on the table were likely to be much less tasty than they looked whereas the cake Susan brought was amazing!!

A worn-out Simba recuperates from her fun day with Maggie and is now ready to play again!
