I feel pretty good about my February progress, particulary in light of everything I have going on in my personal life. Most days I just don't feel like sewing.

I fully completed one quilt on my UFO list (item 5), the Runway quilt made with Ruby Star Adorn fabric. You can scroll back one post to see more photos of it.
I have quilted my Marble mystery quilt (item 1) and have the binding attached to the front, ready to sew down by hand. I didn't realize my backing fabric was directional. Due to the way I needed to load that on the machine, I had to load my top sideways. That made me change my quilting plan to something non-directional. I picked Diagonal Plaid Bias. I quilted this one this week, but totally forgot to take any pictures of it in progress, so you get to see it after it's been quilted.
I have also changed out item 11 on my UFO list. It was "something fun from my stash" and it is now "race car quilt". I don't know that this is a very fun project, but it is one of my older UFOs and I'd like to get it out of here. Looking at it now, I do not like how the fabrics were put together to make the kit; I think it was one that was provided by the manufacturer. Anyway, I have the center completed. Next up is four sets of inner borders and then a pieced outer border.
Items 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 10 all need to be quilted and bound. Number 8 needs to have all the appliqué applied and then it will need to be quilted and bound.
That leaves one clothing item, tbd. I have a large stack of fabrics and lots of patterns to try. I want to do my Palmer Pletsch fitting pattern first so that I better understand where I need to alter patterns to get them to fit better. I have determined the size I need and have it cut out. There is some pressing and taping that needs to be competed before I can start the fitting process.
In the longarm quilting part of my life, I've finished two quilts for Trish. We picked my custom hybrid design, which I call Lovely Roses, for her table runner. She decided on Knit 1, Purl 2 for her mystery quilt.Jeri wanted her Jewels quilt quilted in the same way that GE Designs had quilted their cover version. She reached out to them to find out which design they used for their cover quilt. It was the Fusion design, but stretched out. I couldn't make it as large as they did since it would exceed my available throat space, but I did try to keep it the same proportion as theirs. I'm quite pleased with the finished product.
I quilted Baptist Fans on Jeri's log cabin quilt. I will bind this one today.
Amber loves the Ginger Heart design and picked it for her heart quilt.
The February OMG finish link up is available for a few more days. The March goal link up will open on Saturday.

For not feeling like sewing you sure got a lot done! Hopefully that mojo comes back ;-)
ReplyDeleteJoanns is disappointing. The one in the town near me closed a few years ago - so we had to go to one about 45 minutes away - now there will be none - very sad.
Poor little Beaker! Re: JoAnns: I feel like for years now, the younger makers (garments, quilts whatever) have been more interested in repurposing fabric from thrift shops than buying cheap fabric from places like JoAnn, and I foresee more of that shopping behavior filling in whatever gap is left by JoAnn. There is growing awareness that the textile manufacturing process and "fast fashion" is devastating to the environment, so shopping at Goodwill or thrift stores and then upcycling or deconstructing garments to harvest fabric, trim etc does double duty of saving money on supplies while also keeping something out of a landfill and "making a difference." Vintage sheets are great choices for those donation quilt fabrics, and oh my gosh, there are always those yard sales and quilt show boutique areas overloaded with inexpensive secondhand fabrics, notions and tools that had been hoarded by quilters whose stash exceeded life expectancy...
ReplyDeleteLooks like you've had a productive month with your PHD! Congratulations on your finish and your progress!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to miss popping over to JoAnn for thread, batting, etc. Our local quilt shops don't stock the thread that I prefer to use for piecing, so I guess that I'm stuck with ordering it via Amazon. I usually don't need to shop for fabric at JoAnn, but I've been going there for my quilt backings since they're conveniently located. I can plan ahead better and go to the LQS instead. Hobby Lobby or Michaels will not cut it as a substitute for JoAnn, in my opinion.
Hi Anne-Marie. You had a very busy month! It's good to get some UFOs advanced and/or finished! I love your marble mystery quilt.
ReplyDeleteGreat job in moving those UFO's along! You got a lot done in a short month. I will miss Joann Fabrics for the garment fabrics and patterns. While I can order some fabrics on-line, it's so helpful to be able to see and feel the fabric you are purchasing. Their pattern sales were amazing and I didn't have to pay shipping like I will have to if I order them from Simplicity.com. They also had some other selections in other crafting areas that neither our local Michaels or Hobby Lobby carry. I just went there yesterday figuring it will be my last true visit to shop them. Unfortunately, the sales weren't as good as they were two weeks ago. Yesterday, the results of the auction to the liquidator was supposed to be approved in court.
