Although these are queen size quilts, they're also twins!!! They are made from the exact same fabrics, same pattern, same thread color, same batting, same pantograph/quilting, same backing, and the same binding. Only the placement of the prints varies! Maybe that makes them fraternal twins?!!
Quilt Info #1 & 2:
Makers: Lynn and Me!
Fabrics: Greenstone Lollies by Jen Kingwell for Moda
Size: 85" x 90"
Batting: Quilters Dream Batting Wool
Thread: Glide--Thyme
I used "Rainbow Garden" quilting because this is a quilt full of hope for Spring in the middle of Winter, with a little bit of modern vibe Baptist Fan thrown in!
Are you familiar with Jen Kingwell's Lollies fabrics? There are 4 coordinating prints across the width of the fabric, like this.⤵️ Ours came in 1/2 yard cuts, with 4 prints on each half yard. We each started out with 11 different half-yard Lollies--that's 44 different prints, plus 2 coordinating prints in half yard cuts. These fabrics are 4 times the fun!!!
Gudrun has a video class on making the Koby quilt which includes a segment on how to cut out the Lollies to make a Koby quilt!!! It was super helpful!
Now, you might be wondering how these quilts came to be so identical, or fraternal! Lynn bought enough fabric for the both of us and gifted me half! Late last year we had a day when we got together and cut out all our fabrics.
After cutting out everything we needed, we had two 2 1/2" strips leftover from each of the Lollies prints. That was perfect for each of us to have scrappy looking binding without doing the work, since there are 4 prints across each width!⤵️ We joined the strips with straight seams, too, which isn't my usual go-to, but it worked with the Lollies!
We had a sew day in January. We both managed to sew all of our blocks together in one day, plus we arranged and rearranged Lynn's blocks on my large design wall. Lynn had enough energy to return home and sew her entire quilt together that night! It took me another day or two!
We both used a Grunge 108" backing--a gray with a bit of a green tint to it. (Another peek at the binding here, too!⤵️)
This one is Lynn's. She has the binding on now and is using it on her bed.⤵️

And here's mine, being put right to use on our guest bed. Btw, all those fun pillows were made by my daughters in their younger years!
This was a super fun joint project!!!Grace and peace!!! ~Nancy

ReplyDeleteThese are lovely quilts.
Great quilts! Always fun to do with a friend!! That fabric is intriguing. I have never seen it. I'll have to check it out!
ReplyDeleteHaha on fraternal twins! These are such beautiful quilts. I am not familiar with Jen's lollies, but oh I do love her fabrics. Such a fun project!
ReplyDeleteThey do sound like fraternal twins. Fun that you were able to sew them with Lynn. Interesting fabric with 4 different designs across. I've never seen any of it. But it works nicely in this project.
ReplyDeleteSounds like that was some fun fabric to use, I had not heard of it before.
ReplyDeleteI love the Koby pattern and plan to make more. My brain just can't settle on what blenders to use. Great job to both of you on your twin quilts
ReplyDeleteFraternal twin quilts – I like that! You have a beautiful view in front of your longarm. How fun to complete a joint project! Honestly, I love scrappy bindings! Look at those cheerful pillows!
ReplyDeleteThis is great...so much fun to make the same quilt with a friend and sweet that she gave you the fabric. It is a fun quilt and yes, is saying spring to me!
ReplyDeleteSo interesting! I love the quilting design you selected; it adds curvy interest to the simple rectangle patchwork.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of twin sister quilts made by sisters! What an interesting concept for printed fabric, and clever pattern for using the fabric frugally.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to make a quilt with your sister! Love those pillows on the bed, made by your daughters when they were young. Oh so cute. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss.

What fun to look, and look again to see what's the same and what's different.
ReplyDeleteLove is having someone with the same taste in quilts to spend time creating fraternal twin quilts. Love the rainbow garden pantograph. Seems especially appropriate with those tiny hearts scattered throughout the pattern.
ReplyDeleteSo fun to see how you and your friend made the same quilt...yet different. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat fun projects to work on together! It's great that they're so similar, and that you have created a nice remembrance with a friend. Such a lovely quilting design. And straight-across binding piece would be tough for me to do too, but as you pointed out, it works well with this design. My favorite part is seeing the quilt on a bed - a nice size for actually using. Good job!
ReplyDeleteHow fun to work on these together! I would definitely say they are handsome fraternal twinkies!! I love them. Thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun way to make a quilt! Loved seeing yours in use and the pillows are awesome!--Terry@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteSew fun to sew with a friend. I love the fabrics you used for your quilts and the quilting is perfect. Gail at the cozy quilter

ReplyDeleteThose are great quilts. How wonderful that you have someone to work on quilts with.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great color combo. And that quilting is so much fun. Such pretty quilts.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun community project! Love how you both enjoyed your sewing time and project together. And how cool both quilts are! I love a simple patchwork design especially when benefitted by a lovely intricate pantograph quilting. Hope you both did your happy dance ;) xo
