Ageless Style is a monthly style challenge and link up for women of all ages. Each month we pick a different theme and style an outfit based on that theme. This month's theme is "Winter Blues" and was picked by Joanne.
This month Joanne picked "Winter Blues" as our theme which could be interpreted one of two ways; either by color or something you would wear if you had the "winter blues". Now I do get the "winter blues" every year, but not this early. Currently, I'm actually enjoying the coziness of winter. I am soaking in the rest after a busy gardening/harvest season and Christmas. But come March or April when all my southern friends are posting spring outfits and showing all their beautiful blooms in their neighborhood while I'm still buried in a foot of snow, I will be going out of my mind with "winter blues" 😁

So, because I currently don't have the "winter blues" I decided to show you winter blue colors. This is actually a sweater I've shown you in a previous post from four years ago: "
How to Wear Pale Blue in Winter". In that post, I'm sitting in the same corner of my house, with different furniture, but I'm wearing skinny jeans! Since skinny jeans are trending out, I decided to update the look with straight leg jeans.
Just changing out the grey skinny jeans for dark blue straight leg denim really updates the look. I'm still surprised how many women still wear skinny jeans, although it's appearing a smaller and smaller number all the time. When I compare the two photos of me, the older photos do look so out dated to me.
I wore this outfit to church. It was an icy day so I chose brown combat boots for my footwear. They have a sturdy rubber sole which is perfect for walking on ice.
A trick to making a sweater and jeans look a little more fancy is to add some jewelry. For this outfit, I chose a silver necklace and silver drop earrings.
Before I leave, I have to share this photo I saw on Instagram showing "Winter Blues" in Wisconsin. I couldn't agree more.
So what about you? Do you get the "winter blues". I'd love to hear from you!
Next month's theme is "Pinks and Reds" and was picked by Jennifer! If you want to join us, just email me a photo before February 19th and I will include you in the post (email address located on my "contacts/follow" page in the side bar) .
Have A Great Day!

I'm already starting to get the winter blues, it's so cold and we barely have gotten any snow. If there's snow, I don't mind the cold as much. The color of your sweater is so pretty! Such a cute look!
ReplyDeleteJill - Doused in Pink
Oh, I'm sorry you're getting the winter blues already. We don't have snow here either and we're expecting really cold temps again this son. Thanks so much.
DeleteLove this color combo and the boat neck is so pretty! I actually started wearing my cigarette jeans again this winter (they are not ultra skinny but very slim, a little over 11" leg opening) and even ordered another pair!! They are so easy to tuck in to my mid- calf height winter boots and those keep me so warm in this cold weather.
ReplyDeleteThat Wisconin "winter blues" picture you shared is so pretty.
Thanks Ellie. I had a sales girl tell me a few years ago already that skinny jeans are still in style to wear with tall boots since it's more difficult (if not impossible) to do that with regular/wide leg jeans. So it's always good to keep a few pair of skinnies on hand and not get rid of them all.
DeleteThat is a beautiful outfit!
ReplyDeleteThanks Joanne!
DeleteNope, I don't get the winter blues! It's one of my favorite times of year. I love being cozy and cuddled up in a throw or quilt while the darkness settles around me. Your pretty blue sweater is so good with your coloring!

Ha ha. You are one of a kind then. I think most people prefer warmer weather and sunshine. But I know what you mean. Like I said in my post, after a long garden/harvest season it is nice to "rest". Thanks so much.
DeleteBeautiful sweater and I love those boots. You really can't go wrong with this outfit - looks comfy and sylish.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Gina!
DeletePowder blue is so soft and gentle. It has always been one of my favorite colors. It looks lovely on you especially with the blue jeans. Great outfit.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet way to describe powder blue. Thanks so much.
DeleteThe fading positivity in March and April totally resonates with me. March is my hardest month of the year and if I am going to fall apart its often during this season. I have to say that since my daughter has done competitive dance and the business of March with that, it's been much better for me. Now this sweater is absolutely perfect. It looks soft, warm and cozy but I do appreciate the lighter shade and how it seems to breath lightness into the darker, long and cold days. Good pick.

I think March is my most difficult month too. There's no fun holiday in March, other than St. Patricks Day, which we don't celebrate. I'm glad your daughter's dancing has made the month easier for you. Thanks so much.
DeleteOh, that's a nice linkup, dear Amy, it's a shame I only noticed it today. I haven't been in the blogging world that often lately because there's been so much else to do. But if it's okay, I'd like to be part of the February linkup with my current post, would that be possible? Because (in the bottom collage) I'm showing the red silk blouse that I bought from a second-hand shop in New York last year, that would fit the theme well.
ReplyDeleteYour outfit looks wonderfully relaxed, a nice, cool winter look. And the jeans are much better than skinny jeans (which I personally don't like wearing anyway. I like jeans as casual and comfortable as possible 😉) Since I didn't find it in your profile, I'd like to ask you where exactly you live, because winter lasts so long in your region. I live in Austria, close to Vienna, not in the mountainous region, which means that spring usually (!) comes relatively early here - but my blog friends in Germany regularly post spring flowers when everything in my garden still looks bare and sometimes there is still snow. (Not this year so far...) When I get the winter blues, I usually wear strong, sunny, fruity colors (as shown in my previous post, to which you wrote me a nice comment - thank you!).
All the best from Austria, Traude

I'm not sure if an old post will be acceptable to the rest of the ladies in the group, but I can ask. I also noticed (after you commented) that I had the date wrong for including a new photo for next month's challenge. I have changed it now, but it should have read February 19th. The photos are always due a day before the third Thursday of the month, so if you think you'll have something new by then, we'd love to have you. Thanks for your sweet comments about my outfit. I too am happy the skinny jean trend is over. They weren't very comfy. I live in the state of Wisconsin.
DeleteDear Amy,
Deletethank you for answering my questions and für wanting to ask the other ladies. My current post will be up until January 29th. I have a new post planned for January 30th. Since I will be on a skiing holiday in between, I will unfortunately not have much time to blog otherwise. In the pre-programmed post you can also see a few outfits, but they are all in autumn colors. There is just one shirt in a very autumnal (rusty) shade of red. If you accept that, this post could also work. Otherwise I would just have to wait to participate in your linkups until I am less busy. Please let me know what you decide - thank you very much!
All the best, Traude
I talked with the other ladies in the group and everyone agreed that it should be a separate, current post. In that post also needs to be included our "Ageless Style" graphic with a link to our blogs. We in turn post your photo and a link to your blog. In this way we are promoting your blog and you are promoting our link up. If you're too busy next month, we'd love to have you in the future. Also, I noticed you didn't link up with us this month. You could add the link to your current post to the link up above. Just click on "Add Link" and fill in all the information. It's super easy if you've never done it before. Link ups are great ways bring traffic to your blog. Thank you for inquiring!
DeleteVery nicee clean look Amy. Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy. You too!
DeleteThis is a great winter look, simple, chic and cozy. I do not really get the winter blues here in New York. This was much of an issue when I lived in Seattle and one of the reasons I left. It is much brighter here in the winter months. Sure it is cold, and the days are shorter but it is often bright and sunny with blue skies and brisk cold dry air. I like days like this. In Seattle it would be in the fifties but low hanging clouds, dark days and non stop rain and mist. It was awful.

Thank you. Yes, I've heard that about Seattle, but it sure is beautiful and green! I imagine New York has so many indoor activities to do too to keep one busy in the winter.
DeleteI couldn't agree with you more, Amy! I don't mind the January hibernating I'm in the midst of now but when March rolls around and we're still dealing with the freezing temps and snow it gets to me! I love your outfit and your tip of adding jewelry to dress up an outfit is a great one! Have a good week!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad someone understands. Thanks so much.
DeleteThat is such a pretty color, Amy. I've always loved pale blues, and I can see that color looks beautiful on you. Very cute outfit, and I love the addition of the silver jewelry. I do get the winter blues. It does get worse in the later part of the winter (and even into the early spring, if it's too rainy and gray.) Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. Yes, the longer the winter lasts, the worst of the blues.
Deleteyou sure do light up the room in blue, friend!
ReplyDeleteAww, what a kind comment. Thank you!
DeleteI love the soft powder blue with the darker denim. I do get the winter blues, especially in January. It's the dull and wet weather combined with it getting dark early. I am noticing it getting lighter a little earlier now so the end is in sight! Thanks for linking!

Thank you. I'm sorry you get the winter blues so early, but you have an earlier spring that I do in the UK to enjoy.
