PRAISE FOR ANOTHER FINE MESS:

"Sometimes the dead can ruin your life.  Lindy Ryan's Another Fine Mess is a rich and captivating story about family legacy, history, lore, and of course murder. Delightfully alluring and richly suspenseful." –Cynthia Pelayo, Bram Stoker Award-winning author of Vanishing Daughters

"If you ever thought Supernatural should have starred the Golden Girls, have I got the series for you. Smart, at times devastating, and just as funny as it is dark, Another Fine Mess is Lindy Ryan's unputdownable follow-up to Bless Your Heart. Balancing grief and duty, monsters and men, the Evans women are characters to sink your teeth into."–Katrina Monroe, author of Through the Midnight Door

***********

ABOUT ANOTHER FINE MESS:

Making sure dead things stay buried is the family business… .

For over a hundred years, the Evans women have kept the undead in their strange southeast Texas town from rising. But sometimes the dead rise too quick–and that’s what left Lenore Evans, and her granddaughter Luna, burying Luna’s mother, Grace, and Lenore’s mother, Ducey. Now the only two women left in the Evans family, Luna and Lenore, are left rudderless in the wake of the most Godawful Mess to date.

But when the full moon finds another victim, it’s clear their trouble is far from over. Now Lenore, Luna, and the new sheriff—their biggest ally—must dig deep down into family lore to uncover what threatens everything they love most. The body count ticks up, the most unexpected dead will rise–forcing Lenore and Luna to face the possibility that the undead aren’t the only monsters preying on their small town.

ANOTHER FINE MESS is the anticipated follow up to BLESS YOUR HEART, which has been optioned for television, is in development for a TV series and has been long-listed for Bram Stoker Award, and will be available in paperback March 18, 2025.

NATASHA WILLIAMS

  ************
Captures Natasha Williams’s experiences growing up with her schizophrenic father in the gritty New York City of the 1970s.

An intimate account of a daughter’s coming of age in the face of her father’s schizophrenic unraveling.

Layered among Williams’s gorgeously written deeply personal remembrances are important insights about today’s unprecedented mental health crisis in which nearly 60-million US adults have experienced severe mental illness.

The resulting narrative humanizes living with mental illness and illuminates how families find hope, and even thrive, in the face of extraordinary challenges.

PRAISE THE PARTS OF HIM I KEPT:

“If you ever doubt the mental strength and resiliency of humans, read Natasha Williams's memoir, The Parts of Him I Kept...Williams impressively sets aside self-pity and victimhood...Every situation is different, but Williams, until her father's death, lived under the shadow of his schizophrenia. She shows us how to handle it with as much grace as possible, and her frankness in the book is a bracing gift.”—Chronogram

“A profound meditation on love and family. Natasha Williams offers us a portrait of America at a time when everything was in flux, when people searched for new ways to live, and (if they were lucky) ended up simply loving each other.”—Nick Flynn, Another Bullshit Night in Suck City and Lowlife

“Read the first thirty pages of The Parts of Him I Kept, and I bet you would cancel your own wedding to read the rest of it. Natasha Williams has a hell of a story to tell, and she writes like an angel.”—Abigail Thomas, Still Life at Eighty

“Natasha Williams has written an extraordinary memoir of growing up with a schizophrenic father and frequently dysfunctional mother. It is as emotionally wrenching (and occasionally terrifying) as you would expect, but it is also funny, wise, beautifully observed and astonishingly tender.”—James Lasdun, Victory

“A gifted work of graceful eloquence, this memoir is an homage to the universal power of tenderness.”—Lisa St. John, Swallowing Stones

“A lyrical and deeply moving memoir about love, loss, and resilience in the face of her father's schizophrenia. Through tender prose and raw honesty, Williams explores the enduring bonds that tether us, even amid chaos and ultimately healing.”
Jai Chakrabarti, A Small Sacrifice for an Enormous Happiness

Praised as “a profound meditation on love and family” (Nick Flynn), “a hell of a story” (Abigail Thomas), and “beautifully observed and astonishingly tender” (James Lasdun)
 ************
ABOUTHE PARTS OF HIM I KEPT:

One cold night in April, Natasha’s father drove his car into the frigid water of New York Bay with her two-year-old half-sister in the backseat.

She was the one to walk him past the column of hungry reporters demanding an explanation.

The headline in The Daily News read: Back from a Watery Grave. But Natasha’s experiences growing up with her schizophrenic father in the gritty New York City of the 1970s are not so easily captured in a single headline.

How could she possibly convey the power of her father’s love in the face of this tragedy?

The Parts of Him I Kept is an intimate account of coming of age in the face of a father's schizophrenic unraveling.

In the tradition of Michael Greenberg's Hurry Down Sunshine and Robert Kolker's Hidden Valley Road, Williams explores the limits of our understanding of schizophrenia and chronicles the burden and privilege of caring for a mentally ill family member.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

This is Natasha Williams’ debut book.

She has an MA from the University of Pennsylvania and attended the Bread Loaf School of English and the Bread Loaf Writers Conference.

Excerpts and essays have been published in the Bread Loaf Journal, Change Seven, LIT, Memoir Magazine, Onion River Review, Writers Read, Post Road, and South Dakota Review.

Such a Good Mom by Julia Spiro

Brynn Nelson is suffering from postpartum depression with no help from her husband.

She is totally exhausted and then finds out her husband is accused of murder.

He wouldn’t do something like that?  How can that be?

Brynn doesn’t need anything else added to her stressful life, but she has to decide if she will look for the murderer or let her husband be accused since she found out some things he may have done.

We follow Brynn at the beginning of the book as it leads up to her husband’s arrest and all she went through with the baby.

Will she find out who the murderer is when she can’t keep track of her own day and never get her next book written?

She doesn't know who to trust, especially since her husband tells Brynn from his jail cell to not trust his father.

Lots of tension and a good read even though it got bogged down at times with information from the past.

The secondary plot about postpartum depression was very well done and made women aware of it.

Mystery fans will be turning the pages to find out what happens.  Will you figure out who the murderer is?  4/5

Tough Luck by Sandra Dallas

After their father left and their mother died, Haddie and Boots were left with only their older brother, Cheet.

Cheet sold their home, put his brother and sister in an orphanage, and took off with the money.

Haidie had plans, though.   She was going to find her father.  They were not going to stay in the orphanage.  She and Boots escaped and found a man going west that would take them with him.

He was a kind man, but some of the others they met along with way definitely were not.

We travel with Haidie and Boots as they learn how to survive during this time period, and also find out about their father.

An enjoyable, uplifting read with wonderful characters.  You will LOVE Haidie.

Sandra Dallas always gives us a great story.

Enjoy the ride and the fun - remember, it was the Wild West!!  5/5

ABOUT THE PROMISE OF UNBROKEN STRAW:

Paul’s teachers say he’s distracted, and they’re not wrong.

But with the demands of a struggling farm, Allied boots in Europe, and secrets surrounding his mother’s death, who can blame him? And the expectations of his unapproachable father are seemingly out of reach.

When a financial windfall triggers a rags-to-riches transformation, it also sets in motion events that will test young Paul to his core.

This coming-of-age story connects Paul’s tumultuous adolescence to his unfulfilled adulthood.

Across those decades, he searches for redemption and reconciliation with the ghosts of his past.
