Hidden Figures

"You need to become an engineer!"

This is about the movie "Hidden Figures", based on the truth.

I highly recommend, if you are into space or into feminism or segregation. I had tears in my eyes...

"You need to become an engineer!"

"Sir, I´m a negro woman..."

"I´m a polish Jew who escaped Holocaust, now I am standing beneath a space ship  - we are living the impossible!"

Segregation is big issue in the movie, of course. I´ll never understand that.

The restroom for negroes a is a mile away... the boss bolts down the sign "Whites only"  in the hall and now everyone can use the rooms.

Also crazy... I found no German - not that I need it, but... crazy.
Often I have to "trick around" to get English!

JFK: "... not because they are easy but because they are hard"

Who makes the rules?
You are the boss, you just have to act like one!!

Katherine Johnson  figured out the correct number to ditch in with "Friendship 7" and recover  - Mr. Harris asks her "You think we get to the moon?" - We´re all in, Sir". That was 1969.
Katherine looks around - none of the "white men" takes notice of her. Sad, huh? It´s not only the color of your skin - it´s being female, too.

The arrogant male colleague  who insisted there has to be a coffee-container for "colored people" when she first joined the team and which was of course empty now brought her a cuppa personally to the table. YIPPEEEE.
Sometimes it´s the little things that are the joy!

Fun fact: I´m reading Brian May´s (yes, the Queen-dude´s) book "Mission Moon 3d" and fun facts will follow once I am done.
A great book, too and you really get there "for real", kinda.

Some last ones:

Henry 🦁

Let´s take care of our planet, rather, but this was interesting, too!
Henry really was in space, btw!!! Yes, OUR Henry, he took off from school here in Braunschweig. And made it safely back, too.
The movie gave me tears and smiles and with the latter I join Gillena´s Sunday Smiles.

I knew you would love Hidden Figures and I was happy when that boss took down the "whites only" sign at the toilets. The nman who insisted on a separate coffee pot is Jim Parsons, who played Dr Sheldon Cooper in "The Big Bang Theory", I almost didn't recognise him.
The sad thing even now is in many places people of colour are still missing out on opportunities simply because they aren't white.
I haven't heard of that other movie, but I will find a copy and watch it.

YES!!! I at once "hated" "Jim Parson"! I dunno. I love "Young Sheldon" but the series where they are adults I hate deeply and that dude especially, LOL. I did recognise him at once.
But he made up in the end...
Yes, color and being female is still a problem in some parts of the world, even over here.
Those women proofed both wrong, wished this would be a movie/docu mandatory for everyone to open their eyes!
Ingo had the second movie sitting around here for years, not telling me, only when I gave him this one!

We love this movie. Segregation seems to be so wrong, what a sad mark on history.

Yes, and segregation is still there. And women are still paid less than men for the same job in many places (not at ESE).

I agree Iris, it's a great movie and based on real facts. I've watched it 2 or 3 times already on tv.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and have a nice week.

Sue, see, clever women are from there!
