It seems our city has been feeding birth control pills to the pigeons in an effort to control their population. They started last May and are awaiting the results.
Jabblog I got this from another newspaper article 'When asked how he can be sure that the pill isn’t eaten by other birds, Wolf said the larger size of the kibble, and the high location of the feeders, attract only pigeons.'
That is something happening to my city here too
ReplyDeleteThere are lots of pigeons over here too. We call them flying rats...sometimes they can be quite annoying.
ReplyDeleteIts my birthday today. When you get to my linky party be ready to dance
ReplyDeleteMuch♡love
Interesting news story indeed!
ReplyDeleteNow to find a birth control for squirrels and the like.
ReplyDeleteI hope it all goes well. Thanks for the news.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know about that!
ReplyDeleteJust so long as other, less numerous birds, don't get hold of them . . .

ReplyDeleteNever heard about birth control for birds, Christine, but in this case, it makes sense.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
That is a darn good idea!
ReplyDeletePigeons (rock doves) spend most of their times on roof tops where few other birds go...maybe crows.
ReplyDeleteHopefully this will bring the numbers down, but it seems kind of unfair to the pigeon population and better for the human population. I guess.
ReplyDeleteInteresting! I've never heard of that before.
ReplyDeleteI'm thrilled they are using birth control rather than poison.
ReplyDeleteI'd not heard of that, but pigeons can be quite a problem.
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see if it helps.
All the best Jan
I haven't seen many birds in last week or so.
ReplyDeletein my country, so many people increase pigeons for breeding...
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! They're a pest in Braunschweig, too!
ReplyDeleteWe really need this because our pigeon population is absolutely out of control. It doesn't help that people feed them.
ReplyDeleteI seem to remember reading about this before in other countries but for the life of me, I can't remember from where.
ReplyDeleteWhat in the world? This doesn't seem healthy or right.
ReplyDeleteour country has so many pigeons as well
ReplyDeletethis scheme sounds impressive
