Another block done on NYB and this one is called Bluebottle and it is odd shaped and goes in the middle – this one and the block that will be under it will have one more piece added to it to square it off – but I need to wait to do that until I start to attach pieces so I get it right. This is Bluebottle – and yes it is curved for now as it attaches to a block above it and one that needs a curve cut out of it still. I hope I can do that all neatly when the time comes.

I have not trimmed this block on the straight sides as I see no measurement in the book – I’m sure I have just missed it but I sent a message to the group on Facebook enquiring on that and will wait to trim it.

Now you can see how the bright yellow joins with the block above it. Linking to From Bolt to Beauty — Wendy’s Peacock Party (this will be the time she host) Confessions of a Fabric Addict — Finished or Not Friday —

And what is a Bluebottle you might ask – think something like our jelly fish that are along the eastern coast line! Stinging things.

I delayed quilting for a little bit last night so I could get the hexies laid out for the next section – the neutrals have different prints on them and although it doesn’t matter that much I wanted to not have the same prints next to each other so I spread it out here so I could see it. Noriko’s Star

On Wednesday night I was delayed starting for some reason that escapes me now so my quilting started late and I didn’t do a lot. Arkansas Traveler

The tree was taken care of and it doesn’t look too bad but will take some getting used to as all the lower branches had to come off to “even” it up and it is a tall tree. It has been growing since before we moved here 42 years ago and was tall then so heaven knows how tall this maple is. Here is right after the bucket came down with the tree trimmer in it. You can see all the branches laying on the ground and all the fall leaves fall fallen that were held up in the tree.

After the clean up-you can see they had a beautiful but chilly morning to work – it was only in the 40’s at this time but the sun was shining brightly it warmed up to 60 before the day was done.

There are two cables up there now tying the four trunks together to make them stronger and help keep them from being damaged in a storm – one cable ties two from north to south and another one two from east to west. So now we wait and see how the tree looks in the spring. (they added more mulch to my huge pile from the work that was done back in March. I had barely started to work on moving it to the garden when it was one foot injury after another – hopefully I can get back to work on that in another month.

Progress may be slow, but it’s still progress. The center of the NYB looks complicated. Happy stitching this weekend.
Bluebottle is an interesting block with the way it will join with the two other blocks! Glad to hear the tree work is done and will hopefully make the tree healthier in the long run. Your high temperatures sound pleasant – after a cold week, we’re supposed to be in the upper 50s this weekend. We’ll enjoy that for mid-December!
Bluebottle is pretty – both the block and the stinging jelly. The center of this quilt does a look challenging, but it certainly is pretty. The tree looks good! I hope it does well come spring.
The whole center section of NYB looks pretty tricky to assemble. I hope it is easier than it looks.
That cable system was a good plan to save that tree. Otherwise the 4 trunks might have started leaning outward as well as more storm damage.
It’s beautiful!
I am wondering how someone even dreamed up this center on the NYB, so different.
I am delighted to see you on the last row of quilting for your Arkansas Traveler. The designs are really beautiful and fit the spaces so well. And your New York Beauty is truly a beauty and the batiks really spark the colors! I can’t believe how far you have come. But then, I have been absent from your progress for a while. Going back, I loved seeing your quilt on the table. I have the pattern and really want to make it. So many ideas….so little time.
Wow, those NYB blocks look fantastic! That will look amazing when it’s done.
It must have been interesting seeing the tree guys at work. We have blue bottles here in New Zealand too, nasty stinging things which sometimes get washed up on the beaches. Then you have to take care not to step on them!
The tree looks great. I’ve never seen one with four trunks. We had a double trunk pine tree, but had it removed a couple of years ago. The new NYB block is pretty. You are such a steady worker. It’s fun to see your progress!!
Awesome NYB blocks. That is a quilt on my bucket list. You must have a lot of patience.
I love watching arborists work. It’s like a ballet, they are so well coordinated.
Blue Bottle is so pretty – I like seeing the bocks all together on the wall!!
