This and that

We’re still cleaning up from the weekend festivities.  Should have the house completely back in order later today. Funny how holidays affect us.  My sister told me she felt our mother’s presence when she was in the supermarket shopping for Passover.  I told her that when we read the Haggadah I hear our father’s voice in my head.  Anyone care for a glass of wine?  I have a lot of wine left over from the holiday. And we will be eating leftovers for awhile, too. Both cats are a bit nutsy today.  I guess the house was too “peopley” all weekend.   The sun came out today!  So happy!  I’m sick of wet, raw, miserable weather. Bring on spring! I had to refill the bird feeder, so I know they’ve been here.  But I’m not really seeing many feathered visitors out back.  I have seen more than a few on our front lawn, though.  Maybe when the weather warms up and I spend time outside I’ll see more birds in the back yard.  When I was ...

And it’s a “your choice” week. I’ve got Billy Joel on my mind.

Birds!

The Merlin app says this is a mockingbird It seems to like my front yard. Merlin could not identify this bird. I think it might be a pigeon. I was a bit concerned about the bird feeder,  it’s right next to my fence.  Most people like birds, but some folks … Well, the fence is rather tall, so I can’t see into their yard.  Until I look out from my upstairs window,  and I can see almost everything in their yard. Guess who has TWO  bird feeders in their yard!

Passover

B’chol dor vador chayav adam lir’ot et atzmo k’ilu hu hatza mimitzrayim.   In every generation, each person must consider himself as if he had come forth from Egypt. V’higadta l’vinkha bayom haha laymir ba-a-but zen asa Adonai lee b’tzeitee mimitzrayim And you shall explain to your son on that day, ‘It is because of what G-d  did for me when I went free from Egypt.' And so we gather together tonight, to recite the ancient story of Israel’s redemption from bondage in Egypt.   In the Torah, Egypt is called “Mitzrayim”, the “narrow place”.  The words have both a geographical and a philosophical meaning.  G-d did not hand down the Law until after he freed us from the bonds of Egypt.  G-d did not lead us into the Promised Land until we threw off the mental shackles of slavery. And tonight we shall enjoy that freedom, we shall drink good wine, feast on traditional foods, and spend time with the people we cherish.

Saturday 9

Money Welcome to  Saturday: 9 . What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme! Saturday 9: Money (That's What I Want) 1959 Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it  here . 1) This lyrics mention "the birds and bees." Who told you about the facts of life? My mother    2) Barrett Strong sings that love won't pay the bills. How do you handle bill paying? Do you set aside one day a month to take care of all your bills, or do you pay each one as it comes in? What's your system? Pay as they come in.   3) He refers to dollar bills as "lean greens." Can you think o...

Baseball! Yeah, New York is in first place … it’s only April but thoughts of a Subway Series are starting … And on the home front …. It’s bird feeder success….sort of … I told you I saw a cardinal in the tree near the feeder. Well, now I’ve seen two crows enjoying the offerings. The bird feeder is small, so they had to take turns — one sat on the fence while the other one ate.  I’m wondering who else will show up.  I’ve seen doves on the overhead wires, and I’ve seen sparrows and other small birds on the front lawn.  And robins, of course.   The Merlin app picked up the sound of blue jays, but I haven’t actually seen any…yet. Not happy about the weather.  It’s been cold and rainy.    I’m really looking forward to this: But at least the rain is good for the grass.  The front lawn is starting to look a bit greener. But we may have to get some grass seed — there are patches where the grass isn’t growing. And something is growing in the back ya...
