Chain Piecing

I love chain piecing – it is mindless at times but I usually get a lot done.  Yesterday I didn’t do any sewing until late afternoon and then I decided to work on the signature quilt some more.  Signatures are still coming in – I’m not sure how many more – I actually lost track!  But all that are here now have strips on both sides of the name – and thank you Angela got yours in the mail yesterday!

I place the signature on a strip and cut leaving just a tad extra and zip it though the machine and add another and another when I’m done with one side I run the rotary cutter over the joining threads and start on the next side.

Then it is time to press

And square up – now they are ready for the large half square triangles – maybe this morning – I do the same way – all one side zipping through, then another – press and get ready for more.  I add the triangles on the plain sides first – I think I have about 25 in this stack

I finished this side of Williamsburg Beauty on Wednesday night

And then went back over to the middle – I’m going to add a line down the petals of the flower on the left first – I just noticed I hadn’t done that, before I do anymore.

I didn’t work on the Xmas quilt yesterday and I will probably take a couple days off of that one for a break from it.  Several have been looking the blocks over very well – better than I and have made sure to tell me that I have been misplacing several white pieces in about 3 blocks now – I fixed the first one but haven’t since as after looking the pattern over I decided it really didn’t matter – sashing goes around each block – the line of red blocks is correct and that is what matters.  The white all forms an L shape facing this way or that and those are all correct so in my mind it really doesn’t matter.  In my hand quilting the L will probably be outlined quilted so it won’t even be noticeable except to those of you who really look for that kind of thing.

You do beautiful applique Karen. It’s something I have to practice. I also love how you are setting the signature blocks, that is going to be such a fun quilt for you to look at and remember your blog friends.

Always fun to see your progress and that beautiful quilting! Chain piecing is the best, isn’t it? It sure cracks things along!

    Dear Karen,

Your hand quilting looks beautiful. Sleeping under a hand quilted quilt, as it bends and moulds to the way we move and cuddle us, is always such a special hug. What a treat and a gift.

Williamsburg beauty is getting more beautiful as you go! Do you find it harder to quilt thru the applique my stitches always end up larger and it used to bother me but after the quilt is done it isn’t even noticed. Sometimes I cut the backing fabric out and that makes it easier!

Isn’t chain piecing the BEST! I know I sound like a broken record, but your stitching is really pretty.

I love your way of chain piecing the signature blocks – what a great idea! That is a pretty block you’re quilting on Williamsburg Beauty right now, too. I love the different shades of pink in it. You’re moving right along on that one!

Great progress! I didn’t get anything done yesterday. A sick puppy had us up in the middle of the night. Luckily his meds seem to be working and we are hoping for a better day.

I’m with you, love simple chain piecing too. It’s quick and always gets a lot done in a reasonable time.

I haven’t sent in a signature yet, should I bother, or do you have enough? I don’t want to tip you over the edge!! LOL Love the quilting, you do such beautiful work.

Love what you are doing with the signatures. What size are the squares you cut diagonally to surround this block? (assuming you are dycecting a square)
