Viva!

Today I take you to our last time to Cuba, 2006.

We went to Havana for a day and popped into this, it´s beautiful, no?

Here is were we stayed, well, not the wall but the town:

It´s irony. Met my neighbour Sat morning, getting buns. We said hi. I wondered I hadn´t seen his wife so long... and actually was a bit thankful - as she told me the same stories over and over again and I assumed ... my, Alzheimer´s? - I never said a word.

It broke my heart.

It broke my heart.

She had had three strokes, a heart attack and suffers Alzheimer´s.

I do know this has nothing to do with murals but it .. paints my heart dark.

I spent hours, literally, listening to him or her (and I like them both)... and I wondered why I hadn´d seen her???

He said... well, his life has no meaning no more, she´s in a home...
I offered help.

What if...

I cannot call the police or anyone for in case "what if"...
He went into detail, like he hasn´t ... seen "her room" and such...
What am I supposed to do?
His son sped by, picked him up like it was Formular 1....

I´m sorry, such a nice man.

Any advice? I sure cannot paint his door... (.. ;-) )

Taking part again in Sami´s COLOURFULWORLD Monday Murals.

Oh Iris, what a fabulous mural you found on that table and chairs. They are very unique.

I feel for you and your friend. Alzheimer's is a very serious and sad problem. The woman is unaware, and the man is living a fruitless life. Both have been robbed by this disease. I just hope they find a cure for it in our lifetime.

Thank you, if only I´d known about murals back then, reckon I might´ve found some more!
Yes, I do hope they find a cure soon. My Grandma suffered Alzeimer´s, too...

It's interesting where artists find places to paint. Ugh Alzeimers I just hope it doesn't come our way.

Yes, nearly too nice to take a seat.
Oh, yes, such a dreadful desease.

Love that table and chairs, so pretty :)
What a sad story about your neighbours Iris. It's a disease that scares me.

...we often want to live a long life, but the end can not always be golden!

Maybe an idea for your next art project?
Yes, it scares me, too...

Someone was very creative in decorating their yard furniture! I like the bicycle.

That's very sad about the neighbors. I hope their son can take care to place them in a safe home.

Thank you, Mae, Cuba has lots of bikes, even on tables :-)

Well, he is still fit, but very lonely now.

Love the table murals Iris. I feel sad for your neighbour too, growing old is bad enough without this and other awful medical conditions making it worse. I think the only thing you can do is be there to chat if you see him ✨

Yes, Grace, cool table!
I know the time he goes to the bakery on Saturday mornings and will keep my eyes open in general.

Having someone to talk to helps, and it's a good thing to try to keep an eye out for him.

Iris Flavia said...

Yes, I will do both... So sad.

Wonderful table and chairs. I love them!!

I know how you feel. Somebody very dear to me was in that situation. And it was painful to watch. Big hugs to you, Iris. :)

Thank you, Dee. My Granma suffered it also.

I love the mural. And I feel for your friend. I know talking probably makes you sad because it is very heavy and dark, but I know that this is probably the kindest and most generous gift you can give him. That, and just being there. A surprise card or flower or something will also be a kind way to let him know that while she may have Alzheimers, you haven't forgotten. I'm so sorry.
