Rain and more rain – it doesn’t seem to want to leave us for more than 12- 24 hours before it starts again! Our two day total is 2.5 inches and more coming later today. We have heard of the small tornadoes that hit numerous areas in eastern Arkansas – all small and some damage but not a lot as that goes but none in my area of the state. We have water standing in all the usual places in the yard – this one is in the far side of the front yard – it will be standing water until the rain is gone and maybe a day later then it soaks in fairly fast. It was sunny by last evening when I took this photo as you can see the sun coming through the trees.
This area closer to the garden will stay wet and mushy for 3 to 4 days probably before I can walk on it and not have my feet sink. If we didn’t get too much rain I would complain of not enough so I guess I need to be thankful we didn’t get the bad stuff!
I did get more work done on the sweater and it is growing a little. It isn’t perfect but so far acceptable for a first attempt! My extra skeins of yarn arrived already – such fast service.
I finished this part of the border on Good Fortune on Wednesday night and rolled it down and started back in the middle.
I’m working half blocks again to reach without over reaching. Linking to Confessions of a Fabric Addict — Busy Hands Quilt —Wendy’s Peacock Party —
I was curious as to how long it takes to machine stitch a row of hexies together for this table runner and I timed my second row at 45 minutes. I think I will wait to sew the long rows together until later because if I decide to go with less rows the extra pieces will be sewed on to the ends of the rows and that will be easier to do with them being single rows. By pinning them to the wall I will be able to estimate what the final width would be and get a good idea of size. Exercise and reading took up the rest of my yesterday. The current book that I just finished and in my opinion was a good book was “A Woman of no Importance” (the untold story of the American Spy who helped win WWII) by Sonia Purnell – women just do not get credit for all they do and the woman in this book Virginia Hall – well lets say it took a long time for her place in history to be covered.

This is non fiction. Not a short read. My library didn’t have this one and I purchased it after reading the reviews on Amazon – the author did a really good job in exploring her subject.

This hasn’t shown up in any of my book blogs-thanks Karen. It will have to wait a little as ALL my ‘on holds’ have been arriving & they are mostly 7 day books! Always happens…Susan from SOGGY Hingham also
it is a pretty good book when you get a chance – I’m not sure where I saw the review on it but my library didn’t have it.
I’ll have to look for that book, too – I always enjoy reading about WWII. I’ve just downloaded the second book in the Virgin River series and the first book in the Prey series, thanks to your recommendations! We’re going out of town this next week, and they seemed like good vacation reading! I think your sweater looks great! Good that you’re making progress on it. Hope you dry out a bit there. It seems no matter where we live, the weather has issues!
I always enjoy books from the WWII era too Diann – they are just so interesting. I hope the sweater turns out and if it doesn’t fit me maybe it will fit one of my girls. I hope we do not get much more rain today and it drys out – it is too wet out there for sure right now – have a good time out of town
Sorry you have had sooo much rain! We have gotten a little here in sw NC but most has gone above us completely. I love that you rolled the quilt in your frame and that you can offset your time elsewhere during the rain crocheting the sweater and machine piecing each string of hexi’s… I love your plan for deciding how long and wide the final project will be on your hexi’s 🙂
Glad you found a book to enjoy! Sounds like a fascinating one too!!! My library is very limited in what it has to offer unfortunately… I am thinking of donating some good books to them so they have more variety!
I always thought Bluprint had super fast shipping too! Have a nice Friday!!!

yes we have had more than our share of rain and the weatherman said earlier on his facebook page that our area might get 4 or 5 inches more next week – it just keeps on coming and we do not have time to dry out in between. Does you area have library on line? you should check in your area might be a larger variety to choose from. I have our library on line and Kindle Unlimited – it really helps.
I work as a Cataloger at the public library and I remember cataloging this book for our collection. Glad to hear you enjoyed it. I hope it gets a lot of use here.
You can send some of that rain south. The storms seem to deviate away from us.
I was disappointed that our library didn’t have it – it is a small library with a limited budget. sorry you need the rain – I’m getting tired of it here! Wettest April and now looks like the first half of May will have more than we need also
The hexies are looking good, I guess you have to go slower to get them sewn together, but its still so much faster than by hand. You’re just moving right along on quilting your quilt, I love watching your progress and your beautiful stitches. Today is sunny and we had a little rain yesterday, everything is just soaked. There’s a flash flood warning thru Saturday, with more rain coming. We certainty need to dry out for a bit now, too bad we can’t space it out to when we’re dry and in need of it. Hope you dry out and have a lovely day.
I didn’t work on the hexies this morning as I had planned but did stuff around the house instead – just one of those days where I will wait until late in the day to sew I bet – I really need to get started on the RSC challenge this week also – we get more rain tonight then a couple dry days and then more next week – a lot of it!
I know I will complain when the weather turns dry, but for now, I’m so tired of the continuing rain, day after day, measuring 3 1/2 inches. There were bad winds (called straight line winds, but we almost beg to differ) here on early Wed. morning, uprooting our big pin oak which hit the power line and tore it down. This line feeds a big area and the power was off for 12 hours. The party barn north of us was hit again (makes at least two times) really hard, killing two of the animals and just about destroying some buildings. Many, many trees over the community went down or were broken off. The pin oak fell on my row of lilies!! 🙁 🙁 Luckily your brother’s farm was not hit.
the storms have been bad haven’t they Charlotte – we have been so lucky so far that we have just had rain and the bad winds missed us – chatted with Jeff the other day and he mentioned being out of power and the party barn had damage I didn’t realize some animals had died though! That one I know belongs to one of your relatives but I’m not sure how related? Let’s hope next week will not be too bad, I saw one report on line that our area might get 4 or 5 inches of more rain – I hope that changes!
Well, let’s see, I can talk about the rain or the weather. I can mention the knitting or the hexies. But it is your hand quilting that really impresses me. And so I will say just that – it is beautiful!!! Perfectly lovely.
thank you so much Preeti! The hand quilting is what I have done the longest and the most of! I would say that is what I am “a hand quilter”
Your crocheted sweater is coming along nicely. A a woman of No Importance sounds like an interesting book. It amazes that half the population has historically received no notice due to gender. ????
yes so often I come across a book about a real live woman that I have never heard of and find out the amazing things she did in her life – I am a reader of history and so often it is just the men that get the credit – this woman has been mentioned in some fiction WWII books that I have read I realized that as soon as I started to read of her limp and realized that here and there she had been mentioned as a back character with no name mentioned in some fiction books that based some characters on real life people. WWII has always interested me so much – most likely as my parents and aunts and uncles were all from that era and numerous ones served – men and women!
I will have to check for a used book, it takes me forever to read a book and too many overdues at the library!
I get most of my books at the library and some freebies from Kindle unlimited I don’t buy many
