No Little Fixes or a Bunch of Complexities to Remember

Do you have to remember a bunch of little tricks and complexities to get Linky Tools to work? No.

Unlike other services that have lots of little tricks you must remember to make things work correctly, Linky Tools strives to WORK THE WAY YOU WORK... not force you to remember or learn how WE want you to work.

The tools are simple, easy to use. Where needed, we give instruction and demo's but all the tools are using just, click, click, click and use. Simple, easy, fun.

If you have any suggestions on how we can improve things and make Linky Tools even easier, please don't hesitate to contact us. We are always making changes and adjustments based on great tips and advice from our users. and Blogs that Do Not Allow Javascript (blogs hosted ON does not support the technology necessary to include Linky Lists directly on your blog page. There is no way around this because of Wordpress security policies. No other linky service can do it either.

So, users are given code that opens a Linky Tools page on the Linky Tools website. We host your links, entry form and other information on a separate page from your blog. This way you can still use Linky Toolseven with blogs hosted at or blogs that do not allow javascript, iFrames or scripts.

People entering links on your blog momentarily go to another page but are automatically redirected back to your blog.

My Link List is Not Showing Up

If you have just put up a new linky list and it isn't showing:

  1. Make sure you are not in PREVIEW mode. Linky lists don't show up in the Blogger Preview mode.
  2. Make sure you have entered the linky code correctly. Make sure you are in HTML mode/view when you paste in the code

If your list was previously showing and had links in it, and then all of sudden disappeared (rare, but has happened a few times):

  1. Check the last entry in your list. Some kind of odd character (sometimes not visible) will cause the javascript to fail. Copy down the information for that entry (so you can re-enter it later) and then delete that entry. Every time this has occurred, deleting the last entry (and then re-entering again) has fixed the list.

If you are expecting the linky list to show up in your blog post but only a link to another page is showing:

  1. You probably used the code (for FREE hosted blogs at Wordpress which does not allow external content via javascript). Get the first code available on the GET CODE screen.
Start and Stop Dates

Start: Choose the date you want your link to BE OPEN FOR NEW SUBMISSIONS. The linky list will show on your blog as soon as you publish it, but new links can only be entered starting at this date and time.

Stop: Choose the date you want your link to STOP accepting new submissions. The linky list will show on your blog after the list is closed but readers will not be able to enter new links.

IMPORTANT: It is smart to use Stop Dates so that down the road, spammers cannot enter links and junk information that you constantly must go back and manage. SPAMMERS WILL FIND OPEN LISTS no matter how old and bombard you with junk entries. Use close dates.

Make sure your TIME ZONE is set correctly in your User Account Settings.

Blog Hops: What? How? Who?

A blog hop is a linky list that is SHARED ON MULTIPLE BLOGS.

When several blogs put the same linky list code on their blog, the exact same list appears on each blog.

Blog visitors can submit their entries on any blog that contains the list. The entries will appear on each blog where the list resides.

Blog readers see the same list on each blog, and can "HOP" from blog to blog seeing the same list of links to follow: BLOG HOP!

By designating your linky list as a BLOG HOP, a link will appear below your linky list where your blog readers can get the blog hop code for your linky.

If you want to do a 'PRIVATE' blog hop, then do NOT check the blog hop checkbox, and simply share the code PRIVATELY with the other blog owners.

Brent Riggs & Linky Tools create the concept of the "blog hop" as it is used on so many blogs today.

Do all my links get saved?

All the links for any current subscriber will remain on your blog unless you manually delete them, or cancel your account with Linky Tools.

If you want your own permanent copy of your linky lists, then use the EXPORT link in your Dashboard.

Blogger Preview Mode

If you are using Blogger (Blogspot), the Linky Tools list will NOT show up in their PREVIEW mode.

Other blogs may behave the same way. The way to test this, is to publish the blog post for a moment and see if the list shows.

You can also use the PREVIEW link for that linky list in your dashboard to see if the list is appearing correctly. If it appears in your Dashboard Preview, then it will appear in your blog post (assuming you have copied the linky code correctly into your blog post.)

Where's My List Title?

The title you give your lists in your User Dashboard are for your use only.

They are friendly titles that help you identify and manage your lists.

They do NOT show up anywhere publicly. So if you are looking for them on your blog, they won't be there. They will be in your Linky Tools Dashboard.

How to Edit or Delete Entries  Log into your Linky Tools Account. Go to your YOUR DASHBOARD. Click on MANAGE LINKS on which ever list you need to manage.
My link is wrong on someone's linky list... Go to your User Dashboard. Click the MANAGE LINKS on the list in question. You can edit or delete any links on your list.
Why are my thumbnails blurry after changing the thumbnail size?

When someone enters a thumbnail into your Thumbnail Linky list, that thumbnail is created at whatever size you have set.

For example, say you've set up your Thumbnail list at 80 pixels.  That means each thumbnail is 80 pixels by 80 pixels.

If you go back and change your Thumbnail list to 160 pixels, then that 80 x 80 pixel thumbnail now has to be stretched to fill twice the space (160 x160 pixels) making the resolution one half the original.

If you did just the opposite (started with 160 pixel Thumbnail Linky and changed it to 80 pixels) you would be effectively DOUBLING the resolution because now that 160 pixel thumbnail would be squeezed down into an 80 pixel box making it 320 pixels in resolution.

If you change the thumbnail size on a Thumbnail LInky list, all entries made after that point will be the new image size and will not be blurry (assuming a reader does not upload a really small image that is actually smaller than your thumbnail size).
